Here
is what a recent guest had to say:
"...our
room was HUGE and BEAUTIFUL with an antique 4 poster canopy bed
with a burgundy satin brocade bedspread and canape and burgundy
velvet headboard. The dresser was antique, set with antique lace
dresser cloth and an antique hair brush and hand mirror. Next to
the fireplace was an antique wash stand with brown marble top and
green stained glass back. On it sat an antique wash bowl and pitcher,
a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and a hot pot to heat water.
The small bedroom off the main bedroom contained a single bed and
small night stand..."
Here
is what "Special Places to Stay" said about Sherwood:
"Sherwood
Park would grind to a halt without Maureen; as I was leaving, Patrick
bounded down the stone steps at the front to hurry her up. "They
need you in there, Maureen," he said, and she was led away,
one arm raised in farewell. The only rule she seems to lay down
is that you enjoy yourself; with her boundless generosity and Paddy's
gift for hilarious one-liners, it is not hard to have a good time
here. Sherwood is a fine example of an early Irish Georgian residence
approached through an original stone entrance. Its four storeys
are unusual for the simple reason that houses from this period were
never built on foundations, so the higher you went, the more likely
the building would sink; as a result, the house has subsided six
feet since it was first built in 1730. There are some interesting
sloping floors but the graceful design remains intact with high
ceilings and big, welcoming rooms. In the main hallway past the
well-played piano is an elegant staircase that leads to comfortable
bedrooms with half-testers and four-posters. Downstairs, breakfast
is served round a large dining table that must take weeks to polish.
An enchanting house."
