Situated 12 km east of Carlow town, Mount Wolseley is set in opulent surroundings and boasts a mature 18-hole parkland course, opened in 1995. According to Christy O'Connor Junior, course designer, " Rarely after a first look around a potential site for a golf course had I been so impressed as at Mount Wolseley. What we have here is a fair but testing 18 holes of championship golf, none of which will disappoint even the most discerning player". This par 72-course will provide a challenge to every ability as each hole presents demanding approach shots, with wide landing areas being the only concession. With its broad fairways, unforgiving rough and picturesque water hazards, Mount Wolseley has justifiably played host to a number of national and international golf competitions. The course is enhanced with picturesque lakes filled with wildlife and fish. Water comes into play on eleven of the 18 holes. The Bent grass greens are generous in size but are strategically framed by bunkers. Fairways have good landing areas, however approach play must be accurate. Our signature holes are the par three 11th which is 207 yds from the championship tees, this shot requires you to hit an accurate long iron or wood across water to a two tier green. The 18th is a fantastic finishing hole, the fairway is lined with mature oak trees, then a second shot up hill across a water hazard to a green which is overlooked by the gallery of the hotel.
