An exciting new addition to Carlow's golfing product has come on stream in September 2005 with the opening of Leinster Hills Golf Club. This course is a unique experience for all who play it with stunning views of the Dublin, Wicklow, Slieve Bloom and Blackstairs Mountains. The course is designed to maximise the wonderful vistas surrounding it. Leinster Hills Golf Course was designed with the golfer in mind. A challenging course which will guarantee many hours of enjoyment, the course is open to members and "pay and play golfers" alike.
The course features changing and shower facilities and lots of private parking.
A
soup and sandwich menu is available on site but for those who would
prefer a meal after their golfing round there are ample facilities
in the local area.
Membership
is by preferential shareholding. A maximum allocation of 450 shares
will be allocated. The first trench of 50 shares has been allocated
and the second trench is 80% sold.
GOLFCROSS
Not
only does Leinster Hills provide an excellent game of golf, but
it is also the location for Ireland's first official GolfCross Course.
And what is Golf Cross I hear you ask! Essentially, GolfCross is
golf in everything but shape. It's played over a course just like
golf, using the same clubs and the same basic rules, only 2 things
are different - the shape of the ball and the shape of the target.
Like rugby, GolfCross is an aerial game with a target that's raised
above the turf - GolfCross is golf with goals instead of holes and
it's played with an oval GolfCross ball (similar to a rugby ball)
instead of a round one. Nobody believes that the oval ball is more
controllable than a round one until they hit it and every player
is amazed to discover that all the control properties they've ever
wanted have been hiding in the oval ball all the time. It seems
impossible that 500 years after the game of golf was started, that
such a complementary game could be invented that, although emulates
the traditional game, can actually be more fun yet also more tactical
than the original. In Leinster Hills GolfCross is played along side
traditional golf on the existing course.
"Trust
the Irish to build a stunner, which has instantly become GolfCross's
most prestigious and longest course in the world. You can now experience
18 goals over a 6000+ yard, par 70-championship course. If there
is a course that will host the up and coming "GolfCross World
Championship" then this is it. The combined golf/golfcross
course was designed and built by the owners, Joe Nolan and John
McDonald, with the incomparable landscape provided by Mother Nature.
This is undoubtedly a course that every "GolfCrosser"
will travel far and wide to play. A must see whilst at the course
is the striking interior of the clubhouse, with the fireplace being
an extremely prominent feature. A wonderful setting, hosted by charming
people in a lovely country, this is certainly one course that you
should not miss out on viewing" - from www.golfcross.co.uk
