Ballymoon Castle

Mary Doyle has created a very successful range of character dolls, tweed slippers and Christmas decorations from her workshop in Ballymoon near Bagenalstown. Using Donegal tweed and pure wool Mary has designed unique and traditional hand-made character Irish dolls. Based on original designs of fishermen, fiddlers, farmers, pipers, grannies and the Irish colleen Mary’s pieces offer a truly Irish momento of your visit here. The average height of each doll is 8 inches. The Donard range also features cosy ladies and mens slippers in Donegal tweed and fur lined for extra warmth and comfort. Each piece is handmade and is available in all sizes. For a truly different and original Christmas gift Mary makes a range of Christmas tree decorations including hand-made angels and carol singers. Beautiful, individual pieces that will enrich every home and provide lasting memories of your visit to Co. Carlow

John is a self-taught woodturner with a special interest in developing innovative new designs. He is excited and rewarded each time he creates a unique new design. John's work is exhibited regularly at Eigse Carlow and at Kilkenny Arts Festival. His range includes both unique and functional woodturned items. His table lamps are of full bodied form, and are made mainly from spalted beech. Remarkably the shades are also wood, turned so thin that the light shines through showing the unique grain pattern of the wood. His bowls are carefully turned with their own unique and organic shape by working with the grain formation of the wood.
