AMENITIES AND ATTRACTIONS

Carlow town, the county capital and gateway to the South-East stands at the confluence of the Barrow and Burrin Rivers. The modern name Carlow is thought to have derived from the old Irish place name Ceatharloch, meaning 'four lakes'. With the Blackstairs Mountains to the east and the Killeshin Hills to the west, Carlow has its fair share of beautiful scenery. A frontier town for many centuries, Carlow is a busy market and industrial centre today with a strong tradition of Irish language and culture and a superb range of shops, boutiques and restaurants.

Open year round, Barrowville Town House is an ideal centre for touring the south-east and midlands of Ireland, with Kilkenny and the scenic attractions of the Wicklow Mountains just a short distance away. Ideal location for golfing at Carlow, Killerig, Mount Wolseley Hilton and Kilkea.
